Encoding UTF-8 in Excel

The import.io CSV file encodes special characters that are extracted in UTF-8. When opening a CSV in many versions of Excel, these characters are not encoded by default. Here is a quick guide on how to get around the character encoding.

Steps

  • Open a new Workbook
  • Go to the "Data" tab
  • Click "From Text"

  • Select the .CSV file that you want to open and hit "Get Data"
  • On the first pop-up window, click "file origin" and select Unicode (UTF-8) and hit next.

  • On the next page delimit by "Comma".

  • Then "Finish"
  • Choose what cell you want the data to start in and voila!
